For my brother’s 3 month old daughter. It was one of my absolute favorite books growing up, and I’m super excited to give it to her, but I think it might be a bit too soon. Anyone else like this book growing up? (of course I had the older version)
*edit* kinja, there should be a picture of “The Way Things Work” up here

I absolutely LOVED that book (the old one) growing up. And yeah, 3mo. might be a little young but she’ll grow into it. I might have to get a copy for my 3 year old, he would love it. The kid probably has 150 books in his room, and both my kids love books - off to a good start!

That *is* a good book. You’re probably only about 10 months early. A buddy’s daughter of about 16 months was interested by my Monster Manual 2 just from it being a hefty book with some color, so reading level isn’t all that.

Too many people underestimate children’s ability to learn. Don’t sell her short.
A great example is their ability to understand language. Most people assume kids can’t understand language until they can speak. It’s a stupid assumption - even dogs can understand words though they will never be able to speak.
We heard about using sign language to communicate with small children, so we gave it a shot when our daughter was born. She developed a decent sign vocabulary long before she was able to form coherent words. I just wish we had then the resources that are available today!

Oh, there’s a new version! I still have the old version from when I was a kid. I should get this for my 3-year old.
